Designer Glasses
Multimedia | AfterEffects, Premiere | 2018
What is graphic design? To me, graphic design
is a way of organizing elements (typography, images, shapes, etc.) to communicate a message. I was interested in showing how a graphic design lifestyle would affect one's daily life. I wanted to create a sensory and semi-interactive experience to show how being aware of the graphic design in your life can set you apart. Inspired by online tech experiments and the recent "seeing through a different lens" glasses narratives, I created my own take on a graphic design lifestyle.
As a way to simulate looking through the lens of a graphic designer, I wanted to create an augmented reality experience that could simulate how designers experience the design around us. Initially, I had wanted to storyboard and film the experience through a narrative. But then I found out that if remove the film of a LCD screen, you could use them to make a pair of lenses that could allow only one person at a time to view the screen. In other words, you could create custom glasses to see the screen in full color while everyone else just sees white.
Approach
The packaging was support to the the actual set up I had in mind. It not only housed the glasses, but it also gave more background to the glasses. The description includes "lasting effects after extended use" of the Designer glasses. The side descriptions need to be modified though, and the package design needs to also reflect the ideal aesthetic of "Graphic Design"

Conclusion
With the time frame of only a couple weeks, there was only so much I could create and revise. This is definitely a project I'm actively working on. Moving forward, I hope to be able to carry through my initial intention of making narrative to introduce how these glasses would work.
